    Riverdale, MD – Today, the Department of Parks and Recreation in Prince George’s County announces the 2023 Winter Festival of Lights. Now in its 37th year, the festival is a staple in local holiday traditions. With more lights, displays, and entertainment, it is the biggest of its kind in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area.

    Drive through three miles of whimsical lights and celebrate the magic of the season from the comfort of your vehicle. This year’s spectacular drive-through event features dazzling displays with more than 2.5 million LED lights throughout the park and a giant, 54-foot LED musical tree. New this year are hayrides!

    Hayrides – Sit cozied up with your loved ones as you ride behind a tractor through the festival. Don’t forget your hats, gloves, and a blanket. Hayrides are offered every Saturday at the top of the hour. Preregistration is required.

    “We know it’s the holiday season when the Winter Festival of Lights begins. The Festival of Lights gets better every year. There’s always something new to see,” exclaims Bill Tyler, Director of the M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation. “This year we are happy to offer hayrides for attendees. We want to ensure the best possible experience for visitors and their families this holiday season,” says Tyler.

    WHEN: November 24, 2023 – January 1, 2024, daily from 5 – 9:30 pm

    COST: Admission fees based on vehicle type and method of payment

    Online registration is encouraged. Purchase tickets in advance online and pay only $10 for cars ($15 standard admission). Please bring a canned good to donate to local food banks. Preregistration for hayrides is required, since availability is limited, available through https://www.pgparks.com/742/Festival-of-Lights.  

    Bring a little twinkle to your holidays at this spectacular drive-through event. Come celebrate the season with the Department of Parks and Recreation.

    RIVERDALE, Md.– El Departamento de Parques y Recreación, que forma parte de la Comisión de Parques y Planificación de Maryland – Área de la Capital Nacional (M-NCPPC por sus siglas en inglés), anuncia el Festival Anual de las Luces 2023. Por 37 años, el festival es parte de las fiestas y celebraciones locales durante esta época. Con más luces, exhibiciones y entretenimiento, y catalogado el más grande en el área metropolitana de Washington D.C.  

    Conduzca a través de 3 millas de luces resplandecientes y celebre la magia de la temporada desde la comodidad de su vehículo. El espectacular evento de este año cuenta con más de 2.5 millones de luces LED por todo el parque y un árbol musical gigante de 54 pies. ¡Nuevo este año son los paseos en carruaje (hayride)!

    Paseos en carruaje – Siéntese cómodamente con sus seres queridos mientras cabalga detrás de un tractor por el festival. No olvide sus gorros, guantes y una cobija. Los paseos en carruaje se ofrecen todos los sábados a primera hora. Se requiere inscripción previa.

    “Sabemos que estamos en la época festiva cuando empieza el Festival Anual de las Luces. El Festival de las Luces mejora cada año. Siempre hay algo nuevo que ver”, exclama Bill Tyler, director de M-NCPPC, Departamento de Parques y Recreación. “Este año nos complace ofrecer paseos en carruaje.   • The Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex Indoor Track Extended Closure

    UPDATE (November 21, 2023): The Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex indoor track installation is currently in the second phase and is projected to be completed in early January 2024. We are committed to working diligently to complete the renovations as swiftly as possible.     LANDOVER, Md. – M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County announces the temporary closure of the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex indoor track beginning Tuesday, August 29 through Winter 2024. The indoor track will undergo the scheduled replacement of the track flooring due to the end-of-life timeframe.

    The Department of Parks and Recreation is committed to continuing to provide a state-of-the-art track amenity that will enhance the community’s athletic experiences and is working diligently to complete the renovations as swiftly as possible. The Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex continues to offer a variety of programs while renovations are underway.
