    The Prince George's County Planning Department is celebrating Black History Month 2021 with a focus on "The Black Family: Representation, Identity, and Diversity." Black-owned businesses have always been a staple in the black community. An important characteristic of Black businesses is their role as a creator of jobs for Black workers and commitment to community development. However, the unexpected rise of the coronavirus outbreak has not only had a negative impact on businesses across the United States, but Black-owned businesses at alarming rates. About half of small black-owned businesses were closed with a 41% decline. This chat with Black Business Owners based in Prince George’s County is an opportunity to learn about their successes and challenges in doing business.
