SUMMARY:Michele Banks: Forces of Nature
DESCRIPTION:Forces of Nature presents recent works by Washington\, D.C.-based artist Michele Banks\, whose ink and watercolor paintings on yupo explore the invisible forces that shape our world—from microscopic atomic motion to the vast curvature of space. Drawing inspiration from physics and biology\, Banks merges scientific imagery with a fluid\, organic aesthetic\, balancing precision with spontaneity. Through the interplay of charts\, graphs\, and expressive washes of ink\, her work reflects on memory\, connection\, and what it means to exist within both natural and social systems. By bridging the rigor of science with the intuition of art\, Banks brings warmth and accessibility to complex\, abstract ideas.

Elena La Fulana is a Latin Grammy-nominated instrumentalist\, singer-songwriter\, and leader of the D.C.-based\, Wammie-nominated\, bilingual\, Latin folk band Elena & Los Fulanos. Originally from Managua\, Nicaragua\, Elena identifies as both American and Nicaraguan and her music\, which ranges from twangy\, heartbreak-themed folk Americana to soothing\, introspective\, violin-infused Latin cumbia\, reflects this dual identity. SUMMARY:Through the Dark\, the Light Beckons with Dissonance Dance Theatre
DESCRIPTION:This October\, Washington\, D.C.’s Dissonance Dance Theatre (DDT) celebrates its 20th anniversary season at the Publick Playhouse with Through the Dark\, the Light Beckons\, a powerful evening of movement and meaning rooted in the African American experience. Featuring beloved company repertoire and world premieres by acclaimed choreographer Shawn Short\, the program unfolds in three chapters—the pulse and grit of the city’s streets; the fragments of memory that shape us; and the spirit\, soul\, and sophistication of everyday people. \n\n\n\nThe evening moves to a soundtrack as wide-ranging as its stories: the grooves of Earth\, Wind & Fire; the velvet soul of Nancy Wilson and October London; the Afro-pop voice of Angélique Kidjo\, cellist Abel Selaoco’s percussive fire; and the cinematic scores of Hans Zimmer and Max Richter. Danced by DDT’s newest company of exceptional artists with athleticism\, nuance\, and emotional depth\, Dissonance illuminates stories both personal and collective\, inviting audiences to reflect\, feel\, and find light within the darkness.  \n\n\n\nPlease Note: All Publick Playhouse ticket sales are final. SUMMARY:Michele Banks: Forces of Nature - Public Reception
