Historic Preservation Commission
The Prince George's County Historic Preservation Commission (HPC), appointed by the County Executive, administers the provisions of the county's historic preservation ordinance and preservation tax credit program.

Historic Area Work Permit
In order to be included on the HPC hearing agenda, HAWP applications are due one month before the regularly scheduled HPC meetings.

Tax Credits
County Council Bill CB-046-2013 enacted July 24, 2013 and signed by the County Executive August 6, 2013 increased the county's Historic Preservation Tax Credit from 10% to 25%. The credit for new construction is 10%.

Archeology
It is the policy of the Prince George’s County Planning Board to require the documentation and preservation of archeological sites in order to protect the county’s cultural heritage. All work conducted in Prince George’s County must be performed in accordance with the Standards and Guidelines for Archeological Investigations in Maryland.
