Softball

The Department of Parks and Recreation offers many opportunities to learn and play the game of softball. Introduce your child to the game through one of our school coach led clinics, play the game in one of our recreational leagues or our RBI summer league.

Instruction

The Department of Parks and Recreation offers youth softball clinics throughout the summer at many of our premier field locations. Clinics are offered for participants aged 6-14, for all ranges of skill and ability. The clinics are hosted by the Department of Parks and Recreation in conjunction with some local-area coaches and players.

Softball Clinic for ages 5-12. This class will teach the fundamental techniques, as well as conditioning programs for advanced players to improve abilities in preparation for high-level competition. Clinics have historically been held at the following locations:

Softball Clinic (Teens) for ages 13-17. This class will teach the fundamental techniques, as well as conditioning programs for advanced players to improve abilities in preparation for high-level competition. Clinics have historically been held at the following locations:

League Play

Spring leagues are offered for participants aged 9-12 in cooperation with the Prince George’s County Boys & Girls Club. Games are played between May 1st and June 30th. Leagues are set-up for the following levels of play: Kid Pitch-Minors(ages 9-11) and Kid Pitch-Majors(ages 11-12). League age is based on your child’s age as of January 1st of the current year. RBI Softball League:

For the older ages, The Department of Parks and Recreation is an official MLB/RBI League. MLB/RBI is an initiative developed to “Revive Baseball in Inner Cities”. There is one division for play ages 13-18. League play begins in May and registration starts in April. All-Stars from this league will be selected to represent Prince George’s County in the MLB/RBI Mid-Atlantic Regional in Late July. Prince George’s County RBI has a rich history of participation and hopes to continue to grow the program.

Registration is held either by team or individual players. For players without a team, we suggest that you attend the Free Agent Tryouts.
